Los Gatos
So The Cat Empire played a 2.5 Hour set at the Coogee Bay Hotel tonight, which I was privy to. It was a great night, and in those few hours, they were cemented in my mind as the ultimate party act of all time. They have been criticized in my immediate circle of friends as being mere novelty and triviality, but that is an understatement of their raw talent as entertainers and indeed, as musicians. The constant interplay between the various sections of the band, the varying degrees of sound and involvement, and the artistic passion which obviously drives the group are a staunt rebuttal to any criticism of superificiality. Indeed, it seems that unfortunately, people view the having of fun, and shallow inability as the same thing, whereas that is entirely not the case in this situation. I was entirely impressed by everything they did, and I would definitely have rated them ten times better than when I saw them at Homebake late last year. If life were an adjective, it would the one most apt in describing these guys. .. So much of me just wants to be in on the little joke they all share.
